If you were waiting for an Intel-powered smartphone, the wait is almost over as later on this week the first device of this kind will be launched. “Later this week” is what Intel’s CEO Paul Otellini said, and according to various sources this smartphone will come from Lava.

This smartphone is reportedly powered by an Intel Atom processor clocked at 1.60 GHz and it will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread (upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich). It should pack 1GB of RAM and will have a 4.03-inch display with a resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels. The smartphone packs a 1.3 mpx front-facing camera and an 8 megapixel camera at the back with a flash.

The smartphone Xolo from the India-based company will feature 16GB of internal memory and it will be NFC ready. Other features include an HDMI port and HSPA+ support (up to 21 Mbps). The smartphone will measure 123 x 63 x 10.99 m.

Also on the pipeline are other Intel-powered smartphones from Motorola, Lenovo, ZTE and Orange. Revealed earlier this year at CES, the Lenovo K800 is one of the first Atom-based smartphones which will be launched in the months to come. It runs on a 32nm “Medfield” Atom CPU and packs features such as NFC, HDMI-out and 720p video, along with Intel’s Wi-Di technology. This will run on Android and will be launched at first in China.
