Intel is ready to step into the smartphone market. The first smartphone resulted from the mobile partnership between Motorola and Intel is actually ready to make its official debut next month. The event will take place on September, 18th at the Victoria House in London. This upcoming smartphone is a huge step for Intel which has been planning an entry on the market dominated by processor manufacturers such as ARM for quite some time. According to Paul Otellini, Intel’s CEO, the new smartphone will be powered by Intel’s mobile version of the Atom processor.

Intel Unveils Its Plans For The Smartphone Market
For those who didn’t know the partnership between Motorola and Intel became official at the Consumers Electronics Show which took place at the beginning of this year. This partnership is one of the few singed by Intel on the mobile processor market dominated by ARM. That’s because all the ARM smartphones are manufactured to be power efficient while Intel’s chips are focused on high performance rather than power saving. It will be pretty interesting to see if Intel manages to make the new Medfield mobile processor able to provide both high performance and low power consumption. Intel needs to achieve this goal if it plans to compete with the Cortex-A15 powered smartphones that will probably be launched on the market by the end of 2012 or sometime in the beginning of 2013. I also need to mention that the entrance of a second processor manufacturer on the market is definitely a good thing for smartphone users because the competition will probably lower the prices and will lead to better and more performance devices.

Recently, Intel also announced its partnership with Integrated Device Technology (IDT), partnership which was made because Intel is interested in integrating the mobile wireless charging technology into its laptops. Unfortunately, the release date of this technology isn’t yet known. IDT is still working on the technology, so the date when the feature will start being integrated inside upcoming laptops is still a mystery. This “resonance wireless charging” technology will become functional after simply installing the charging software on a laptop and then placing a special device near the laptop. As a result, you will be able to easily recharge your smartphone when you need it.
As you can see Intel has big plans for smartphone users and if it manages to turn them into reality, it will definitely become an important player on the high end mobile device market.
